Oversight of the centre is in collaboration with the Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Society on behalf of School Districts 69 (Parksville, Qualicum) and 71 (Comox Valley). The elected Board of Directors is comprised of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Directors at large. Full-time Employees:

Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Centre has two full-time staff that are currently working to expand the scope of all programs and activities at TBOEC and upgrade the site facilities. Looking to support our full-time staff? Get involved here.

Kate Ortwein

Business Manager

Kate has been with TBOEC since May 2015. She has as BA in Psychology, minoring in Professional Writing and Communications from the University of Victoria. She has worked at various camps and outdoor centres on Vancouver Island and the surrounding Gulf Islands since 2010.

Alex Ortwein

Program Manager

Alex has been with TBOEC since May 2014. He studied Adventure Tourism Management at Thompson Rivers University. Alex has worked at camps and outdoor centres on Vancouver Island since 2011. He worked as an NLS certified lifeguard and grew up hiking all around Strathcona Park and the rest of Vancouver Island.


Part-time Employees:

Program Coordinator

Our program coordinator has extensive experience training and mentoring staff, as well as certification and experience in: Sea Kayaking, Rock Climbing, High Ropes and Low Ropes courses, and Team Building, and plenty of guiding and teaching experience with youth and families. Work includes supervising and training staff, delivering program, hosting groups, assisting in food services, risk management, and general site maintenance.

Maintenance Services Provider

Our maintenance services provider assists with general site maintenance of our 17-acre property in Tribune Bay Provincial Park. Work includes: building repair, vehicle maintenance, lawn maintenance, minor landscaping, and working within the parameters set by BC Parks.

Head of Catering

Connect with us to talk to us about catering options for your group! Our Head of Catering is skilled in custom menu development and in delivering healthy, kid-friendly food to the guests at the Centre.

Catering Staff

Looking to gain some catering and kitchen experience or have a fun summer job in a beautiful location? TBOEC hires 2 full-time employees for May to August to work with our Head of Catering to provide meals for our customers. Optional maintenance work can be included.

Program Facilitators

Looking for work in Outdoor Education? TBOEC hires 5 full-time employees each season. Staff are expected to have previous experience or certification in: Sea Kayaking, Rock Climbing, High Ropes and Low Ropes courses, Team Building, and general guiding or teaching experience with youth and families.

Office Administrator

The office administrator will with general administrative tasks for the organization. Work includes: communications, program delivery, grant research and submission, payroll, risk management, and general site maintenance. The office administrator will also assist the Program Coordinator in staff training and supervision, delivery of program, and hosting groups.
